The Special Jurisdiction for Peace—known as the JEP from its Spanish acronym—was created to investigate, prosecute, and punish those most responsible for the crimes during Colombia’s more than 60-year armed conflict. This historic institution, born from the 2016 Final Peace Agreement, aims to legally resolve the most serious crimes committed during the conflict, while ensuring victims’ rights, and providing legal security to those who appear before the justice system.
