The JEP (Special Jurisdiction for Peace) has convicted, in the second instance, the former members of the final secretariat of the FARC-EP for war crimes and crimes against humanity. They were held responsible for the war crimes of hostage-taking and homicide, as well as the crimes against humanity of severe deprivation of liberty, murder, and forced disappearance. The JEP found that 5 of the 7 convicted individuals are also criminally liable for failing to prevent the commission of the war crimes of torture, cruel treatment, outrages upon personal dignity, sexual violence, and forced displacement, as well as the crimes against humanity of torture, sexual violence, forced displacement, and other inhumane acts.

The Appeals Section, the closing body of the JEP (Special Jurisdiction for Peace), confirmed the sanctions imposed on members of the public forces who provided the truth and acknowledged responsibility for murders or forced disappearances illegitimately presented as combat casualties in the Caribbean Coast. The decision revoked the conviction for the international crimes of persecution and torture, concluding that these were incorporated without following the prescribed legal procedure.
