Sergio Jaramillo

He studied philosophy and classical philology at the universities of Toronto, Oxford, Cambridge, and Heidelberg. As vice minister of defense for international policy and affairs, between 2006 and 2009, he led policies for demobilization, human rights, and territorial consolidation, among others. By age 46, he had been an advisor to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, responsible for diplomacy for peace; a political advisor to the Embassy of Colombia in France; an advisor on political and strategic affairs to the Ministry of National Defense, responsible for developing and drafting the Defense and Democratic Security policy; the director of the Ideas for Peace Foundation; and a high-level presidential advisor for national security.
