She studied law at the Universidad La Gran Colombia in Bogotá and specialized in contentious-administrative law at the Universidad Externado. She was a master’s candidate in political science and democratic leadership at the Institute of Higher European Studies. She has worked in both the public and private sectors. She was a mixed jurisdiction judge in the department of Chocó, senior officer of the Contentious-Administrative Court of Quibdó on two occasions, second administrative judge of Quibdó, secretary of government of the Mayor’s Office of Quibdó, secretary general of the Mayor’s Office of Cali, and advisor on women’s affairs for the municipality of Cali. In 2012, she joined the Colombian Family Welfare Institute (ICBF, in Spanish) as an advisor on the General Directorate’s equity-based approach and the director of the Chocó regional office. She was the senior advisor for women’s equity. She participated at the Negotiation Table as a national government plenipotentiary from November 26, 2013, until October 23, 2014.
