Since the 1980s, various governments have tried to end the armed conflict with FARC-EP through dialogue. The first attempt was under President Belisario Betancur (1982-1986), who managed to sign a ceasefire agreement called the “La Uribe Accords” in 1984. The other two attempts occurred between 1991-1992 in Caracas and Tlaxcala and between 1998 and 2002 in San Vicente del Caguán.
